The Mongol Rally is an adventure rally that takes place each year raising money for charity. Only two thirds of the teams who have set out in previous years have made it to the finish, and in 2008 a record number of 300 teams will be starting from London, Madrid and Milan on Saturday 19 July.
The Mongol Rally is an adventure in its truest form – there are no support crews, no set route and absolutely no directions. Teams can choose to drive through whichever countries they dare on their way to Mongolia.
The only rule is that you must take a totally unsuitable car that was never designed to take on such a feat - that being any vehicle with an engine that is no bigger than a one litre – the perfect size, for example, for the motor of the great Australian lawn mower or sewing machine.
